Vancouver Canucks’ Carson Soucy out 3-to-4 weeks with hand injury

According to a report from Vancouver Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal, Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy will be out for three-to-four weeks with a hand injury.

Soucy last played in Saturday’s 6-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs; he logged one shot on goal and 13:40 minutes of ice time.

Soucy has tallied two goals, four assists and six points in 21 games this season with the Canucks while being slotted on the second defensive pairing with Tyler Myers. He missed time earlier in the year due to a lower-body injury.

The Canucks signed Soucy to a three-year, $9.75 million contract with the Canucks in the offseason, his contract has a cap hit of $3.25 million.

The six-foot-five defenseman, racked up three goals and 16 points while averaging 16:18 in 78 games with the Seattle Kraken during the 2022–23 regular season. He added a goal and an assist while logging 14:35 in 14 games with the Kraken in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Minnesota Wild originally selected Soucy in the fifth round (No. 137 overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft. The Viking, Alberta product played four seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before signing with the Wild in 2017.

Soucy spent parts of three seasons with the Wild before being claimed by the Kraken in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft. He scored a career-high 10 goals and 21 points in 64 games with Seattle in the 2021–22 season.

Through 271 games over parts of six NHL seasons with the Wild and Kraken, Soucy has collected 23 goals and 74 points. He’s added two points (one goal, one assist) in 26 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.

Vancouver currently sits first in the Pacific Division and first in the NHL with a 31-11-4 record and 66 points through 46 games.
