Vancouver mayor Ken Sim announced Wednesday that the city will hold Vancouver Canucks outdoor viewing parties at Oak Meadows Park beginning with Game 3 against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
Sim made note that the outdoor viewing parties will be family-friendly events. Oak Meadows Park, which is located adjacent to the VanDusen Botanical Garden and the BC Children’s Hospital, can accommodate around 2,000 fans.
In addition to the outdoor watch party, Sim said that community centres and libraries in the city will also be open for fans to watch the games. He added that the city is working with various private venues (like movie theatres) to hold even more viewing events.
Furthermore, Sim made note of the possibility that future viewing parties could be held at the Pacific National Exhibition grounds at Hastings Park if the Canucks advance past the Oilers into the Western Conference Final.

The Canucks have not yet confirmed whether they’ll hold indoor viewing parties at Rogers Arena during road games, as they did during the first round against the Nashville Predators.
Fans flocked to Rogers Arena for Games 3, 4, and 6 against the Predators, selling it out even without the players actually on the ice. They created a terrific atmosphere as the Canucks clinched the series with a 1-0 shutout win on the road last Friday.
The Canucks finished the 2023–24 regular season with a 50-23-9 record and 109 points, enough to finish atop the Pacific Division and in sixth place in the National Hockey League. This year marks only their second playoff appearance since 2015.
Amidst some safety and security concerns, Sim was a bit more equivocal about the city holding outdoor viewing parties for Canucks games during the first round, but things appear to have changed now that the Canucks are facing one of their fiercest Pacific Division rivals in Round 2.
Sim has also made a friendly wager with Edmonton mayor Amarjeet Sohi, noting that if the Canucks beat the Oilers, the Edmonton mayor will have to wear a Canucks jersey and a Canucks flag will have to be flown outside of Edmonton city hall — and vice versa, if the Oilers win.
