Watch: Flyers goalie Carter Hart gives up worst goal of the season

There are still three-quarters of the 2022-23 NHL season remaining, but it is hard to imagine somebody giving up a worse goal than the one Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart allowed on Thursday night.

With the Flyers already trailing the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-0, in the third period, Tampa Bay's Ian Cole innocently dumped the puck into the Flyers' zone where it took a bounce off the boards, hit Hart in the back of his leg pad, and then somehow found its way into the back of the net.

Just watch this poetry in motion.

That is a brutal goal to give up in any situation, but especially when your team is already down by three goals in the third period.

The Flyers went on to lose, 4-1, and have now lost 11 of their last 12 games as they keep falling toward the bottom of the NHL standings.

The sad thing about that play for Hart is that he has actually been one of the only bright spots on the Flyers' roster this season and the only thing keeping them competitive on most nights.

The Flyers have been hoping he would become their long-term answer in goal for a few years now, and after some early career inconsistencies, he has finally started to show that ability. But even good goalies can sometimes have bloopers like that.
