Wild acquire former first-round pick from Lightning

The Minnesota Wild have acquired defenseman Zach Bogosian from the Tampa Bay Lightning, The Athletic‘s Michael Russo reported Wednesday afternoon.

Bogosian, 33, has appeared in just four games with the Lightning to start the 2023–24 season, being held without a point and averaging 11:57 of ice time per night.

According to Russo, the Wild sent the Lightning a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft to complete the trade. The Wild now possess five 2025 draft selections.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Wild traded defenseman Calen Addison to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for winger Adam Raska and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick.

Addison, 23, had fallen out of favor in Minnesota despite emerging with 29 points in 62 games during the 2022–23 regular season. Head coach Dean Evason made Addison a healthy scratch down the stretch and throughout the playoffs last year.

With this series of moves, the Wild have swapped out a young offensive defenseman in Addison for a grizzled vet in Bogosian while also adding a prospect in Raska and turning a seventh-round draft pick into a fifth-rounder.

The deal also offers a fresh start for Bogosian, who won the Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2020 and made it to the Final again in 2022. Bogosian is in the final season of a three-year contract he signed with Tampa Bay in 2021. He has a modified no-trade clause in his contract, meaning he may have had to approve his move to Minnesota.

With the Wild, Bogosian will join former Lightning teammate Pat Maroon, who won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in both 2020 and 2021. According to Russo, Bogosian’s brother, Aaron, works in the Wild’s analytics department.

The Wild currently occupy fifth place in the NHL’s Central Division with a 5–5–2 record and 12 points in 12 games. They’ll return to action on Thursday to take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
