Alexis Sanchez will not recover in time to return to the Inter squad for the team’s upcoming Coppa Italia fixture against Thiago Motta’s Bologna according to reports on Monday afternoon.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United forward was ruled out ahead of Inter’s 2-0 victory over Lazio on Sunday evening with a muscular problem, which has continued to be an issue.

According to reports from Calciomercato.com, Sanchez is currently training away from the rest of the first team squad on an individualised programme. The club will reportedly continue to make assessments over his fitness in the coming days.

There will be further medical checks scheduled to se if Sanchez is able to return for Inter’s next Serie A game against Lecce on Saturday afternoon.

Sanchez has scored twice in six outings in the Champions League since his return to San Siro, but has not yet scored in Serie A in five appearances.

Simone Inzaghi could rest star-striker Lautaro Martinez for the midweek Coppa Italia clash, but the same might not go for Marcus Thuram, as Marko Arnautovic is the only other available senior striker in the squad while Sanchez is out.
