Francesco Calzona is only on the Napoli bench until the end of the season, but he could be offered the job full-time, sparking tension with the Slovakian Federation.

The coach is currently holding down both roles after he was brought in as Napoli’s third boss of the season, having already sacked Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri.

He has so far earned two draws with Barcelona and Cagliari, plus a 6-1 win away to Sassuolo.

La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttomercatoweb note that Napoli are starting to think about the possibility of keeping Calzona full-time from next season, which would inevitably mean leaving the Slovakia national team.

The tactician is under contract with Slovakia until June 2025, but could potentially be allowed to leave earlier if his performance at Euro 2024 is particularly positive.

Calzona spent his entire career as an assistant manager, including two different spells at Napoli under Maurizio Sarri and Luciano Spalletti.

He left in 2022 to break out on his own for the first time as the coach of Slovakia, where he has overseen seven victories, four draws and three defeats.
