Despite fans having their split say on the future of David De Gea, it seems as though both the player and Manchester United are keen on sorting out a new deal. The current number one wants to stay at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard was not given an automatic contract extension as his deal runs out this summer. United want De Gea to agree a new, reduced salary deal ahead of the summer.

De Gea has been improved this season and has shown he is still capable of being the clubs first choice shot stopper. United may however look at a younger alternative to become his backup.

Fabrizio Romano reported today, "Man Utd are happy with David de Gea and he would love to stay at United - it is his priority. Positive conversations are ongoing with United trying to agree on a lower salary."

Some fans think De Gea may not be the ideal man to be Erik Ten Hag's long term goalkeeper. However, it seems as though United want to hold onto the experienced man longer than this summer window.
