Shearer warns Newcastle over Pope void

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer can see them signing a new goalkeeper next month.

Nick Pope could be out for four months after suffering a major shoulder injury.

"Nick Pope has been brilliant for Newcastle - shot-stopping and everything else - and there's a reason why he [Martin Dubravka] has been a number two," the Newcastle legend told Premier League Productions.

"Having not played for such a long time, I get that it's difficult to come into the team, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Newcastle were to go out and get a replacement for Pope in the next couple of weeks.

"If he gets injured then they're in trouble. To prepare and plan, I'd be amazed if they're not looking at different ideas now to bring another goalkeeper in."
