Unhappy Manchester United star linked with Real Madrid return

There has been plenty of speculation recently about whether Real Madrid will sign a centre-back in January following David Alaba’s season-ending injury.

The blow to Alaba means Real Madrid are left with just two available centre-backs with Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez. They also have Eder Militao out injured and not expected to return until March.

As a result, Madrid have been linked with a shock return move for Raphael Varane, who spent 10 years at the Bernabeu before joining United in 2021.

Moreover, Diario AS claim Varane is unhappy at Old Trafford which is something that is only going to lead to more speculation. But it doesn’t come as a surprise because Varane has been left out of the squad at times this season.

The Frenchman isn’t very reliable anymore in terms of his fitness, however, he missed Saturday’s trip to West Ham due to illness.

Varane is bound to be frustrated with his lack at game time at United this season, but I can’t see him returning to Madrid or the opportunity being a real possibility.

If sure United will be all ears if Madrid are willing to make a serious offer in January.
