USMNT's Jordan Morris out for Olympics with ACL injury

United States Men's National Team and Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris will miss both the Summer Olympics and Gold Cup.

Per Tom Hamilton of ESPN, Morris suffered a significant ACL injury while featuring for Swansea City on loan versus Huddersfield Town on Saturday. Swansea have ruled the 26-year-old out for the remainder of the English Championship season, and it appears Morris will also be sidelined through at least the bulk of the summer.

"He's had a bad injury unfortunately for him," Swansea manager Steve Cooper confirmed. "It's significant ligament damage, ACL. Everything we hoped it wasn't, unfortunately it is."

Morris joined Swansea on a five-month loan deal in January with the belief that he'd ultimately complete a permanent move to the Championship side.

"It's the end of his season for us and a long road back to recovery, it's very cruel," Cooper explained. "It's a cruel injury anyway, but in the circumstances of him fulfilling an ambition and coming to Europe and being a part of what we're trying to do here. It's a really tough one for him and us to take.

"He has our support, of course. I'm not quite sure of the next steps of his recovery whether it's here or back home in the U.S."

As Rachael Kriger wrote for Sounder at Heart, Morris went down to a torn ACL in the opposite knee in February 2018.

It's widely assumed, but not yet official, that Morris will miss the entire upcoming Major League Soccer season.
