Jonathan Coachman Could’ve Been WWE Champion If Vince McMahon Wanted, But The Story Didn’t Support It

Jonathan Coachman chimes in on the Jinder Mahal vs. HOOK debate.

Earlier this week, AEW’s Tony Khan took issue with Mahal getting a WWE World Championship match against Seth Rollins. Khan argued that Mahal hadn’t won a match in a full year, and putting him in the match was ridiculous. For comparison, Khan said that HOOK had a great record, but drew criticism when put in a title match.

It seemed like everyone voiced their own take on the matter, including the USA Network Twitter account taking a shot at Khan taking pride in AEW’s Cagematch ratings. Khan fired back at USA for the “moral victory” they achieved, then Coachman dropped this gem:

“We also used to get amused at fans who counted wins like wrestlers “earned” them. Hell if Vince wanted I could have been world champion. But the storyline didn’t support it,” Coachman wrote on Twitter. “It’s about the story clearly not wins in a predetermined space. Thought a boss would understand that.”

Jinder Mahal will challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the January 15 episode of WWE RAW. Announced on Wednesday night, HOOK will challenge Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship on the January 17 episode of AEW Dynamite.
